Be it back when you were in boarding school or when you were in college/university or when you're already in the working industry. We will without fail fill in our dear friends with the latest news, juice and gossip of what they were unknown of in which is all under the term of catching up. I personally feel 'catching up' is merely a cover up term used to talk badly about other people.
Don't you guys think so? They say catching up, I say mengumpat.
I know catching up sometimes means you're filling in your friends with your current happenings. But nak tak nak , sometimes we wil tercakap and terkutuk pasal orang lain also.
So here is my experience into the picture. Currently I'm volunteering as Petugas Sukma. My work isn't that hard actually, merely making sure all the athletes get good food at clean cafeteria and on time. Easy? Well, easy job comes with a price. The price of having to wait up at the cafeteria for 3 hours observing people. It can quite B.O.R.I.N.G. So, just by observing with other fellow colleagues, the catching up session intervenes. After a month leave, I'm sure left behind with the gugu gaga of work and colleagues. Usually I just sit in and smile and laugh where appropriate. (Mind you, my workplace are full of snakes and lizards if you know what I mean) Until a topic arose, 'catching up' of other people's marriage.
Well, I don't really mind if they want to talk about how our colleague, who is a superior, marrying a client but I was awe-stricken when they went up to the extent of the googling up the couple just so they can gossip about them more. If you must know, our colleague was very secretive of her wedding and life. But to me, its her rights as it is her life. What I couldn't comprehend is the extent of googling. What is the purpose of googling again? To talk badly about somebody with content?
Witnessing such act in front of my eyes was a real eye-opening experience to just how sick 'catching up' can be. But I understand being a member of our community especially when you are a female, we can't avoid from this incident. Somehow akan ter-mengumpat jugak. In the end, its your call really whether nak tegur or nak join or nak senyap or nak angkat kaki when such incident occur. The best would be, as how my paksi positif says, "buat bodoh jer".
So, what would you do? "Let's Meet and Catch Up," they say. It's your call, you decide.
